DismalSwamp.net is a privately funded site. There are no commercial interests or sponsorships provided to me.
I am one of several individuals that are highly loyal to the lore, facts and mystery of the Great Dismal Swamp. This site is dedicated to the memory of the men that first imagined this project, and to those that labored and even perished in the building of this amazing waterway. When you gaze into the Swamp and Canal, you can feel a kindred like spirit of those that came before you and left their mark on this waterway. It is a historic experience that you not only see, but can feel deep within.
I live on the Deep Creek Canal which is on the North Entrance to the Dismal Swamp Canal. This is an international waterway and has provided passage to sailors from nearly every part of the world. I know, I have spoken to some and have waved to many from my dock here in deep creek. All the locals know the value of preserving the Dismal Swamp and Canal and keeping it open beyond 2005 is something our country must do! It is a national treasure and should be nurtured just like every other historic center in our great country.
Our government is considering shutting this treasure down for merely $600,000. per year in savings. They are considering this at a time whereby this waterway is to celebrate it’s 200th birthday in 2005.

Your donation of time or money can be used to continually update this site or offset the cost of web hosting and fees. Please show your support for the Great Dismal Swamp by contacting your representative and strongly opposing any closure of this mighty waterway! If you care to make a tax free contribution to the preservation of the Great Dismal Swamp, there are tax deductible historical societies that can accept your contribution. Please contact me and I will provide information to where contributions can be used to further enhance the Great Dismal Swamp.
If you would like to contribute to my expenses of operating this web site, Contact me by email for a mailing address, I have personally funded this site until Feb. 2007. After that date, I would like to have enough contributions to open a trust to continually fund this site. I will also consider assigning this site and all rights to an appropriate historical society interested in maintaining a Dismal Swamp Mega site.
