If this canal is allowed to fall into a deep state of disrepair, it is likely that this treasure will be lost forever. I ask for your help and participation.
If your government representatives receive a strong showing of support, they will not support closure of the Great Dismal Swamp Canal. This canal will celebrate it’s 200th anniversary in 2005. Closure now would be terrible!
PLAN OF ACTION: Write AND Call your representative today. Have your wife/husband do exactly the same. Contact any party that is interested in keeping this waterway open and ask them to do the same. The two links below will help you determine whom your representative is for your district.

1. Contact your Congressmen asking for “additional appropriations of $600,000 in the 2006 budget for the Norfolk District, US Army Corps of Engineers, for continued operation of the Dismal Swamp Canal locks and waterway as part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.”
